As an Urban Explorer you look for unique, unspoiled experiences. Weekend after weekend you drive through the country, hoping to find an unseen treasure hiding in the landscape.
We found it. It started out mildly; a small, dilapidated mill. A great motive. Shortly after discovering this place an elderly voice yelled at us. It was Børge, the owner of the mill, who wanted to know what we were doing there as there had been vandals only 8 days earlier.
We explained how we found this mill to be the event of the day, and that we had driven all the way from Copenhagen just to see it. This was music to his ears so of course we should see some photos from the mill’s prime.
The house was a good craftsman’s deal, but what a feel the 84 year old man had! All in the mill was untouched, placed precisely as it had been for the last 30-50 years. And then the stories came.
A nearby museum had made a book about the place, the man himself had been in the classic Danish movie Jeppe på bjerget (Jeppe on the Mountain) and there was the story of when a woman gave birth in the living-room.
About an hour later we drove off with a nice feel. Dammit it was unique! But before we got the car started, Børge came running; I had forgotten my lens cap on a closet. An alien element isn’t easily overlooked when everything else has been the same for 30 years.
